DAY 233.1 | DUI at 35,000 feet

Death in the Clouds

Sobering… and reassuring.

Southwest Airlines captain is taken off a flight shortly before takeoff at Savannah airport, Georgia, on Jan. 15, 2025. Officers then conducted field sobriety testing.
Watch till the logical… and painful end.

  1. Something that is never discussed, the extreme stress of flying.
And pilots drinking and flying drunk is nothing new, it’s been this way for decades !!! Had a relative who bartended at a bar in the 1960’s. Pilots for the airlines would leave the bar drunk as hell and go on their way to fly. Back then there were few safeguards in place to protect the public. When asked by my relative how they could fly, the pilots explained they would just use the oxygen masks provided in the cockpit to “sober up” just enough to fly. The pilots stupidly believed this.
Leaves one wondering how many fatal passenger aircraft crashes were actually caused by drunk pilots back then.

    1. I know there are random breathalyzer tests for pilots, but I don't know if some airports or airlines routinely require them before boarding. It wouldn't be a bad thing. Booze and flying a plane don't mix well.
