DAY 143 | Underwater no one can hear you scream
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
Dolly zoom (also known as the Vertigo effect, after Hitchcock’s 1958 film) is a camera technique that creates a disorienting visual effect by zooming in or out with the lens while simultaneously moving the camera in the opposite direction.
If you zoom in while dollying backward, the subject stays the same size, but the background appears to stretch or expand.
If you zoom out while dollying forward, the background appears to compress or close in.
This creates a surreal, unsettling effect often used to convey shock, realization, or dizziness. It’s been famously used in Jaws.
